APPLY FOR AN ONLINE PERMIT

Permits are required for most types of residential or commercial construction (new or alteration), remodeling, home improvements, plumbing and/or mechanical work being done to ensure that the project meets minimum standards to safeguard life, limb, health, property and public safety/welfare by the City of Robbinsdale. A building Plan Review may be required depending on the scope of work.

The usual process for obtaining a permit is to complete an application and submit the proper documents to the Building Department for review. This process can take 1-10 days depending of the scope of work.

Please Note: If your project requires a Dumpster/Container, a permit is REQUIRED regardless of the items collected, the length of time it is needed and where the container is placed.

Online Permit Applications

The City of Robbinsdale is now accepting Online Permit Applications. The following are currently the ONLY permits offered online at this time through the BS&A Online portal.

Residential Re-Roof (Dumpster placement requires an additional permit)
Residential Siding (Dumpster placement requires an additional permit)
Residential Windows/Doors
Residential Mechanical (Furnace, A/C, gas fireplace, simple mechanical)
Residential Plumbing (water heater, water softener, appliance replacement, valve replacement, simple plumbing)
Gas Fireplace
Dumpster / Container (Dumpster Permits are REQUIRED regardless of whether the container is on private property or in the street

Permit Applications Not Available Online

How to Submit Permit Applications (Not offered online):

Print off the permit application(s).
Fill out application(s) in their entirety.
Attach required plans, drawings, Property Owners Affidavit, credit card authorization payment form, etc.
Submit to permits@robbinsdalemn.gov, fax to #763-531-1200, or submit to the Building Department directly at City Hall.

Most fees are listed on the permit applications. If you are applying for new construction, commercial buildouts, residential remodels, additions or any other larger project that requires full-size plans, you must apply via email or in person. Plans can also be mailed to the City of Robbinsdale at 4100 Lakeview Ave N, Robbinsdale, MN, 55422. Plan review on most projects can take anywhere from 1-10 days to process.

Fees and surcharges are listed on most individual permit applications. Building permit fees will be calculated once plans are approved.

Payments can be made online or with check, cash or credit card. We accept all major credit cards and can take card numbers over the phone for your convenience. The original permits will be mailed along with the credit card receipt.

Applying for a Permit as Property Owner

Do NOT apply for permits for your contractor. When the contractor signs the permit application, the contractor is agreeing to do the work according to code. If you sign a permit application, you are liable for correcting the contractor’s work if it should fall short of City or State building code standards. Make sure your contractor is applying for the permit and is calling for the required inspection. Inspection cards are issued with most permits and need to be displayed near the work area.

If you are approved to conduct the work as the property owner, a “Property Owner’s Affidavit” is required to be signed and submitted along with the permit application.
