Robbinsdale is a compact city with a gridded street network and a core downtown commercial area. The City of Robbinsdale’s existing transportation system is essentially a system of State, County and City roadways. Other modes of transportation include bus, freight rail service, and bikeways and walkways. There are a variety of modes of transportation that residents can utilize to travel around Robbinsdale.

Public transportation in Robbinsdale is provided by Metro Transit, a service of the Metropolitan Council. There are four bus routes that operate throughout Robbinsdale, all of which service our main transit hub, Robbinsdale Transit Center. The Robbinsdale Transit Center is located in the heart of downtown Robbinsdale at 4151 Hubbard Avenue N. The bus routes that bring people to, from, and around Robbinsdale are the 14, 32, 716, and 717. Find maps for each route below.

Route 14: North/south travel between Robbinsdale, North Minneapolis, Downtown Minneapolis, South Minneapolis, and Richfield

Route 32: East/west travel from Robbinsdale Transit Center to Rosedale Transit Center, via North Minneapolis, Northeast Minneapolis, and St. Anthony

Route 716: North/south travel between Robbinsdale Transit Center, Crystal, and Brooklyn Park

Route 717: East/west travel between Plymouth Cub Foods, Robbinsdale Transit Center, and Brooklyn Center Transit Center

Metro Transit local buses charge a fee depending on the time of day. Most local buses charge $2 for adults and $1 for youth, seniors, or Medicare card holders.

Metro Mobility

Metro Mobility is a Metro Transit shared ride public transportation service for certified riders who are unable to use regular fixed-route buses due to a disability or health condition. Trips are provided for any purpose.

The federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines determine eligibility for Metro Mobility services. People are generally eligible if:

They are physically unable to get to the regular fixed-route bus
They are unable to navigate the regular fixed-route bus systems once they are on board
They are unable to board and exit the bus at some locations

Under the federal ADA guidelines, individuals may be eligible for Metro Mobility services if any of the following conditions apply:

A person is physically unable to get to the bus because of their disability or health condition within an area that the fixed-route serves
A person is unable to navigate the regular fixed-route system because of their disability
A person is unable to board or exit the bus at some locations because of their disability

Transit Link

Transit Link is a shared-ride public transportation for the Twin Cities metro area where regular route transit service is infrequent or unavailable. Transit Link is for trips that cannot be accomplished on regular transit routes alone.

Trips may begin on Transit Link and connect to regular route buses at a convenient transit hub, OR begin on a regular route transit and transfer to Transit Link. Reservationists will help you understand your options.

Transit Link service hours are 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Monday – Friday. Base fare is $3.50 one way.

Bicyclists and Pedestrians

Robbinsdale benefits from a mostly gridded street network that provides residents with a variety of well-connected route options. Most streets include sidewalks. A grid system allows for route choice so that pedestrians and bicyclists can choose alternate routes on calmer streets that run parallel to higher-traffic roads.

There are a few roads in Robbinsdale that offer bicyclists a dedicated path. There is an off-road bike path along Noble Avenue, and an on-shoulder bike path along Lake Drive/County Road 9, east of County Road 81. The City of Robbinsdale has adopted a Complete Streets Policy, so as the city updates its aging street infrastructure, the city accounts for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and alternative modes of transportation in their planning efforts.

An important off-road bicycle connection is the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway System, a portion of which runs along Victory Memorial Parkway on the city’s eastern boundary. This trail provides connections to the Mississippi River, Downtown Minneapolis, and the larger regional bicycle network.

The Grand Rounds Scenic Byway Trail also connects to the Crystal Lake Regional Trail which runs along County Road 81 in Robbinsdale. Users can ride this trail all the way northeast to Elm Creek Park Reserve.

The Twin Lakes Regional Trail trailhead is located at the Twin Lakes boat launch in Robbinsdale, offering a paved pedestrian and bicycle connection to the Crystal Lake Regional Trail, and from Robbinsdale northeast to Brooklyn Center and eventually to North Mississippi Regional Park.

Robbinsdale also has a network of off-road shared-use paths and trails in various city parks such as Lakeview Terrace Park, Sochacki Park, Lee Park, Kelly Park, Sanborn Park, and Manor Park. There is also a stretch of an off-road shared-use path at Hollingsworth Park on the north end of Crystal Lake. These trails are a great option for recreational walking and biking.
